Runners: Jim
Weather: 40 degrees and raining
Comments: Thank goodness for Yaks Traks (chains for my shoes) . I was on ice and snow 90 percent of the run. I ran up Marquam trail to Council Crest. Next I ran along Fairmont Loop until I had to take a detour due to a large tree that fell across the road. I worked my way back up to Council Crest road and then back down Mcdonnell (that was closed to cars due to steepness and large snow drifts) where I got back to Farimont Loop. Then I ran down to Marquam trail, took a left towards Marquam Shelter and made my way back. This took 1:24 and was about 6 miles. Slipping around requires extra energy for balance and result in a tough workout. I seem to get my "snow legs" after about 45 minutes.

Update - I went for a run from my house to Glendoveer, around the golf course and back. It was 26 degrees when I left and 24 degrees when I got back. Wind gust of 30 MPH made for an adventure. When the wind was to my back I had to take my gloves off due to over-heating.
The morning run has been cancelled due to poor driving conditions - the snowstorm came early. Everybody do your own run and post here under comments. Have fun in the snow!

Runners: Carolyn and Jim
Weather: Low 30's and clear
Comments: Started at Marquam shelter and ran to Council Crest. We decided to run over to Terwilliger and back for a total of 1 hour and 7 minutes. I thought of a good challenge run - Do this exact run except turn around when we hit Terwilliger and run back the same way we came. It would take about 1 hour 50.

Breaking News - I have a new PR. I must have started my watch a little early or stopped it a bit late. Below is my old PR from the 2006 Helvetia Half Marathon:
Lofthus, Jim Portland, OR 2010 M 42 1:57:42
Here is my time from the 2008 Eugene Run to Stay Warm:
17 Jim Lofthus 44 M 40-44 M R Portland OR 1:57:41.8
I beat the old record by 1/5 of a second!

Runners: Hundreds
Weather: 40 degrees and partly cloudy / foggy
Comments: We (Brian, Carolyn and I) ran the Run to Stay Warm in Eugene. Brian crushed his PR by running a 1:56:30 and I missed my PR by 4 seconds with a 1:57:46. Carolyn stuck to her game plan and took it easy coming in right around 2 hours. Feel free to add comments and tell us how you did if you ran the Run to Stay Warm.

Weather: Perfect
Comments: We parked at Marquam Shelter again. A lady tried to recruit us for a work party after the run. I'll take that over a smashed window. We ran up to Council Crest, over to Wildwood and stopped above the zoo. We had a very clear view of Mr Rainer. Turned around and came back for a total of 9 miles. Russ - everyone at Cooper's was looking for you.

Runners: Carolyn and Jim
Weather: Upper 50's and some rain
Comments: We started at Marquam Shelter which requires a 1.5 mile climb right out of the car. We ran the Wildwood towards Burnside until we reached the road that leads down to Washington Park. Ended up on Canyon Rd and ran down to Hawthorned Bridge, crossed and ran past OMSI and then turned around and went the shorted route back to Maarquam Shelter. It was a nice run that has trails, hills, flat, road and very little traffic.

Day 22 - Today was short but significant workout. I tried slacklining for the first time. The workout was 25 minutes with an average HR of 108. Slacklining is simply putting a line (in my case 3 come-alongs strung together) between two fixed points and trying to balance on it, tightrope style. After 25 minutes of trying I was able to stand for about 5 seconds at a time.

Our next group run will be Wednesday. We plan on meeting at Burnside at 7:00 and running towards Council Crest.
Day 20 - Ran from Pittock Mansion with Carolyn and Brian ( and Russ would have gone if I had told him -SORRY.) We ran for 1:27 with an average HR of 144. The hill coming back up to the parking lot is a a gut-buster.
Day 19 - Played tennis with Ruth for 1:30. Average HR was 110 and we had some very good games.

The next run will be tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM at Burnside. Sorry Russ -I will give you a call and set up another run later in the week (maybe Thursday.)
Here is a slideshow from camping:
Day 14 - Did a hike / run up Lost Lake Butte with Danny. 1800' elevation gain in 2 miles makes for a steep trail. To get up a back took 1:20 with a HR in the 120's.
Day 13 - Ran around Lost Lake. HR 147 was the result of running at 3,000 feet. Took 33 minutes to get around the lake on what must be one of Oregon's best running trails. A slideshow of pictures will be coming soon thanks to Danny's picture taking.
Day 12 - No workout today.

Summer Training Begins
Today the Weekly running blog is going to turn into Daily trainging blog. I am going to record daily workouts (running and cross-training.) The weekly run will still be posted aloing with any other group runs that are planned. Lastly, a plan is coming together for a "Running Camp" during the first week of August. Probably near Timothy lake...more details later.
Day 1 - I looked for a route to run around Rocky Butte. I nearly found it but I should find out if it is okay to run through The Grotto. I looked for a way to get through East of the Grotto but I ran into a cliff. The run took 1:40 but when I am not searching for a route is should take about 1:20.

Saturday June 28th Run
Runners: Russ and Jim
Weather: Upper 50's and Sunny
Comments: We are slowly getting faster (???) from Burnside to Council Crest. In February is took about 57 minutes and we now averaging about 54 minnutes. Sometime this summer we may break into the 49's. This distance is shorter but given the hillyness and trail surface I think the effort from Burnside to Council Crest is equivalent to a 10K on the road.

Comments: Say a few snowflakes in the air up on Council Crest. We did the sam route as last week and felt a bit better. This is a very challenging course. If we can get the time down to 2 hours (2:11 tday) I think a half marathon under 1:50 is possible.

Comments: Tried new route from Pittock Mansion and found out the gate is locked until 9:00 AM. Parked at the gate and ran over to Wildwood. Make a loop using Marquam trail into downtown through PSU and back to Burnside. Freezing rain started as we headed up Burnside (not the best running conditions.)
