Day 23 - Ran 4 miles. I also practiced slacklining.

Day 22 - Today was short but significant workout. I tried slacklining for the first time. The workout was 25 minutes with an average HR of 108. Slacklining is simply putting a line (in my case 3 come-alongs strung together) between two fixed points and trying to balance on it, tightrope style. After 25 minutes of trying I was able to stand for about 5 seconds at a time.

Day 21 - Played tennis with Corey for 1:11. Average HR 110. Corey gave a good lesson on keeping the racquet head moving forward on the forehand before following through for topspin.

Our next group run will be Wednesday. We plan on meeting at Burnside at 7:00 and running towards Council Crest.


Day 20 - Ran from Pittock Mansion with Carolyn and Brian ( and Russ would have gone if I had told him -SORRY.) We ran for 1:27 with an average HR of 144. The hill coming back up to the parking lot is a a gut-buster.

Day 19 - Played tennis with Ruth for 1:30. Average HR was 110 and we had some very good games.

Day 18 - Ran 8.5 with Russ. We started at Burnside and took the shortcut back. Average HR was 148 for 1:30.

Day 17 - Went on a 7 mile hike with Ruth, Andy, and Dad. We made it up to the high bridge on the Eagle Creek Trail in The Gorge. The hike took about 3.5 hours.

Day 16 - Played tennis with Corey and Ruth for 1:30. Average HR was 102 and we played better than last week.

Day 15 - Ran 10 miles with Carolyn. We ran from Burnside to Council Crest and back (without the shortcut.) It took 1:50 with an average HR of 150.

The next run will be tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM at Burnside. Sorry Russ -I will give you a call and set up another run later in the week (maybe Thursday.)

Day 14 - Did a hike / run up Lost Lake Butte with Danny. 1800' elevation gain in 2 miles makes for a steep trail. To get up a back took 1:20 with a HR in the 120's.

Day 13 - Ran around Lost Lake. HR 147 was the result of running at 3,000 feet. Took 33 minutes to get around the lake on what must be one of Oregon's best running trails. A slideshow of pictures will be coming soon thanks to Danny's picture taking.

Day 12 - No workout today.

Day 11 - Did a combination workout for 45 minutes. Average HR 130 with a high of 174. I ran for 5 minutes at a time and in between running I did exercises with a 10 lb ball. I walked for the last mile on the treadmill at a steep incline to keep HR up.

Day 10 - Played tennis for 1:20. Average HR 114 with a high of 197. Ruth and I played doubles against Corey. The score did not show it but our play improved.

Day 9 - Ran on treadmill for 33 minutes. Average HR 139.


Day 8 - Monday July 14th

1 hour yardwork workout. Average HR 100. It was difficult to get aerobic (but the yard looks better.)

Day 7 - Bike up Rocky Butte. Average HR 124 for 33 minutes made this a minimum but required workout.

Day 6 - Ran with Carolyn today on the Wildwood Trail. We ran to Council Crest and back using the shortcut. It took 1:36 with an average HR of 140 with a max of 175

Day 5 - Ran on treadmill for 2 miles at 11:00 PM! I am glad to keep my goal of 40 aerobic workouts in 40 days alive but I will try to avoid late night runs (that just sounds bad.)


Next run will be Saturday, July 12th at 700 AM. Park at the Burnside pullout for the Wildwood Trail.

Day 4 - Mountain biked to Mt. Tabor. The workout was 57 minutes. Average HR of 124 with a high of 187. It was nice to get back on my bike.

Day 3 - Played basketball for 1:20 at Hinson with the Wednesday lunch crowd. HRA of 139 with a high of 197.

Day 2 - Played tennis today for about 1 hour. With an average HR of 120 I managed to stay aerobic. Max HR was 188 (probably when slammed the ball after yet another double fault.)

Summer Training Begins

Today the Weekly running blog is going to turn into Daily trainging blog. I am going to record daily workouts (running and cross-training.) The weekly run will still be posted aloing with any other group runs that are planned. Lastly, a plan is coming together for a "Running Camp" during the first week of August. Probably near Timothy lake...more details later.

Day 1 - I looked for a route to run around Rocky Butte. I nearly found it but I should find out if it is okay to run through The Grotto. I looked for a way to get through East of the Grotto but I ran into a cliff. The run took 1:40 but when I am not searching for a route is should take about 1:20.
