Runners: Carolyn, Jessica and Jim
Weather: Mid 30's and heavy rain
Comments: Jessica is now part of the elite group of runners who go out in any conditions. We ran along the Wildwood and took a detour through Hoyt Arboretum. We connected back with the Wildwood above the Oregon Zoo and ran back towards Burnside. We took another detour down through the Rose Garden (the one with roses - not basketball players.) Finally connected back up with Wildwood and back for about 5 miles. Good job Jess!

Runner: Carolyn and Jim
Weather: Low 30's and cloudy
Comments: We parked at Terwilliger and Barbur. We ran along Terwilliger to a trail head and went up to Faimont loop. We took Fairmont loop south to the tower and took Mitchell down toward Termilliger. We came out at the top of Terwilliger and ran back to Barbur. It was a nice 7 mile run and one that we can put into other loops.

Runners: Carolyn, Stacey, Russ and Jim
Weather: Low 30's and Sunny
Comments: Went to Eugene and ran the EWEB Run to Stay Warm for the third year in a row. Very nice event. Russ burned up the course in well under two hours, I came just over 2 hours and Carolyn and Stacey finished a bit after that. We had a nice lunch with Corey and Matt and Holly.

Runners: Caroly, Stacey, Russ, and Jim
Weather: 60 and Sunny
Comments: We went to Council Crest and back for a nice 10 mile trail run. Lots of runners and hikers today. The plan for next week is to run 12 miles without feeling like we added 2 to today's 10. And just for the record this week the previously ugly baby was cute.

Weather: Upper 50's Cloudy
Comments: We started on the Wildwood and headed down through Washington Park. We went up the Stairs and past the Castle. We split off into two groups at Broadway and met back up at Peet's Coffee. Everybody ran about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Great job college students!

Runners: Danny and Jim
Weather: Low 50's and sunny
Comments: Danny ran his first 1/2 in 1:35:45! He was second in his age category and top 10 overall. Unfortunately they only awarded the winner in each age category ( Danny did beat everybody from 25-34.) That's okay they recognized all the runners 18 and younger... sorry Dan, you 19 year-old running wonder. I was happy with my run at 1:57:56. Call me Mr 9:00. In terms of steady splits that was my best race by a mile. The first mile was 8:40 and the last mile was 9:20 and all the rest were 9:00. Some day I'll get that negative split.

Runners / Hikers: Dave, Stacey Carolyn, Brian and Jim
Weather: 60's and sunny
Comments: We hiked up past Multnomah Falls, up to Devils Rest Lookout for the the top of the hike / run at 2400 feet elevation. We had to backtrack 1.6 miles and then made a loop by going down the Wahkeena Falls trail and then back the bottom. I had a little slip by one of the waterfalls to make life interesting. I know that you are always suppose to keep three points in contact but I don't think face, shoulder and hip count. The hike was 9.5 miles and it took us a little over 3 hours.

Runners: Carolyn, Stephen, and Jim
Weather: Upper 40's and clear
Comments: Stephen T joined us today and we were able to slow him down bit from his regular pace ( and I think he sped us up a bit.) We ran the same course as two weeks ago but did not take the short cut back. It took a little over 2 hours. Next week, shorter faster.

Runners: Carolyn and Jim
Weather: Low 50's and misty
Comments: We ran from the Hawthorne Bridge to Terwilliger going nearly to Barbur (about 5 miles) and back. On the way back we took a detour down to track and Dunaway. We clocked one lap to find our pace 1.5 hours into the run. I ran a bit fast at 8:10 and Carolyn ran a more reasonable (for 1/2 marathon) pace of 8:20. We should be able to manage 8:23 for Helvetia. On the way back through downtown we had an encounter with a homeless guy that was startling. Lots of yelling and screaming. Then there was Coopers. Was it my discomfort with his revealing spandex that made that man sit so close to me? Deep Thoughts.

Runners: Russ, Carolyn and Jim plus about 15 other runners at the Tiicum 10K.
Weather: Perfect - 50 and sunny
Comments: Nice flat run at Champeog Park. We should organize our own 10k there sometime and see if we can get more runners. All we need is a cause. Better yet we could have an anti-theme 10k. Russ - let's play a little game called 'where did I leave my running shoes?" You go first.

Runners: Russ, Carolyn and Jim
Weather: Upper 40's to start and lower 40's to finish
Comments: Ran Wildwood to Council Crest, along the top to the tower, took a right on Fairmont loop and then the short cut back. I was shooting for a 2 hour run and we came in at 1:59:00. Carolyn put her foot down and made us go slower at the beginning which made for a good finish.

Runners: Carolyn, Russ and Jim
Weather: Mid 30's and Sunny
Comments: Nice weather after a long cold winter. Although it was muddy it was great to hit the trail. The plan for Helvetia Half training is to alternate long hilly trail runs (good) with shorter faster flat runs (bad.) I was going to skip the next 10k (Tilicum 10k) on the list but now I am thinking that would be perfect for a fast run in two weeks.

Runners: Carolyn, Brian, Jim
Weather: Upper 30's, windy, light rain
Comments: The run started out very windy and cold across the Hawthorne bridge. We ran up Marquam trail to Council Crest. Took Fairmont back to Marquam and back for 9 miles. The conditions seemed much nicer the second time across the bridge.

Weather: Low 40's and clear
Comments: We started on the Wildwood trail and then went down through Washington Park managing to stay west of 405 and went under 26 on 18th st putting us at the base of Broadway hill (Russ was begging to run up it - patience Russ, we will run up that hill.) We did run up Marquam Shelter hill to the top of Council Crest and then took the shorcut back for 11 miles. Hats off to Brian for hanging in there on a challenging run.
